# YouTube transcript generator

> Paste a link. Get the words. This generator fetches captions — it doesn't listen to the audio.

Most “transcript generators” run speech-to-text. This one doesn't. YouTube already keeps a caption file next to a lot of videos. We fetch that file and show it.

If YouTube has no captions, you get nothing. We don't invent a track from the sound.

## How to generate a YouTube transcript

1. Paste the YouTube URL.
2. Press Get transcript.
3. Copy the words, or download TXT, SRT, VTT, or JSON.

## Manual or auto

YouTube can store a track a person wrote, or one its own recognizer wrote. Both are caption files. We fetch one of them. We don't run recognition ourselves.

- **Manual.** A person wrote it. We prefer this when both exist.
- **Auto-generated.** YouTube wrote it. Still a real file. The wording can be wrong. We don't spell-check it.

## What to do with it

Same as the homepage: copy into notes, save a file, or paste the text into another tool if you want a summary. We give you the words. The rest is yours.
