# YouTube subtitle downloader

On a video with sound, caption and subtitle are the same thing: timed text that sits on the picture. A transcript is those words without the overlay job. This page writes the overlay file.

## How to download YouTube subtitles

1. Paste the YouTube URL.
2. Press Get transcript.
3. Download SRT (default) or VTT.

## Which files are actually subtitles

- **SRT.** Yes. Comma times. Drop it on a timeline.
- **VTT.** Yes. Dot times, starts with WEBVTT.
- **TXT.** No. Same words, no times. That's a reading copy.
- **JSON.** No. Data, not an overlay file.

## We don't translate

You get the language YouTube already stored. Turning CC off in the player is fine — that only hides the overlay. If the creator disabled captions, there's no file to write.
