# Download YouTube SRT

> An SRT is the subtitle file editors actually load. Comma times. No WEBVTT header. Default on this page.

## How to download a YouTube SRT

1. Paste the YouTube URL.
2. Press Get transcript.
3. Download SRT. The file is named {video_id}.{lang}.srt.

## What an SRT looks like

Each cue is a block: a number, a timing line with a comma, the words, then a blank line. No header. The first character of a valid file is 1, not the word WEBVTT.

## Don't rename it to .vtt

SRT uses a comma before milliseconds. VTT uses a dot and starts with WEBVTT. Changing the extension does not convert the file. If you need VTT, press the VTT button.
