# Download YouTube transcript

YouTube's own panel doesn't give you a file. This page does. Same captions, four downloads, all free.

## How to download a YouTube transcript

1. Paste the YouTube URL.
2. Press Get transcript.
3. Click TXT, SRT, VTT, or JSON.

## Which file

- **TXT.** The words, no times. For reading or pasting.
- **SRT.** Timed cues with a comma. For Premiere, CapCut, Descript.
- **VTT.** Timed cues with a dot, starts with WEBVTT. For browsers and YouTube uploads.
- **JSON.** Each cue as text, start, and duration. For code.

## You don't need to own the channel

YouTube Studio only exports captions for a channel you own. This page works on any public video that already has captions. The file is named {video_id}.{lang}.{ext}.
